New Zealand is one of the world's most beautiful countries and one of its most welcoming study destinations. Often compared favourably to Australia โ smaller, more personal, less congested, and with equally strong post-study work and PR pathways โ New Zealand is growing steadily as an Indian student destination. Currently 15,000+ Indian students study in New Zealand, drawn by quality universities, a safe environment, English-medium education, and a 3-year post-study work visa plus an accessible PR pathway.

1 NZD โ โน47. NZ is 15โ20% less expensive than Australia overall.
New Zealand is smaller, more affordable (15โ20% less expensive), and has a very similar PR pathway to Australia. For students with a smaller budget or who prefer a quieter, less competitive environment, NZ can be preferable. Australia has more universities, a larger job market, and a larger Indian community. Both are excellent choices โ the right one depends on the specific programme and career field.
University of Otago offers Medicine (MBChB) but only for domestic NZ students and a very limited number of internationals โ it is highly competitive and very expensive (NZD 35,000โ40,000/year). There is no accessible MBBS route in NZ for most Indian students. For MBBS, Russia, Kazakhstan, Philippines, or Georgia are the recommended destinations.
New Zealand is the ideal alternative to Australia for Indian students who want an English-speaking PR pathway at 15โ20% lower cost, in one of the world's safest and most beautiful countries. Nursing, Engineering, IT, and Hospitality graduates have strong SMC points for NZ PR. VedKris Edu recommends New Zealand for students targeting these fields with a 6โ8 year NZ career and residency plan.
